Once your child knows many of the letter sounds, phonetic word cards are a great way to put it all together. Short, phonetic words allow your child to focus on one word at a time rather than an entire sentence. It is difficult for new readers to do two challenging things at once: reading words while also comprending a sentence. Word cards build her confidence with reading.
The Phonetic Word Cards are just that, small cards with a short phonetic word on each side. Each word is considered a High Interest Word which is a just a fancy way of saying that it relates to a child and is also a conversation opener. So if you’re child reads "camp," have a brief talk about summer camp or going camping. It keeps the activity fun keeps her engaged.
